Every report that exists within Dynamics SL is fully modifiable by the end user. Sometimes it is necessary to modify the standard report to make changes in the look and feel of the report or to make significant changes in the data used in the report. This sounds like another one of those scary customizations, but it usually is quite simple, and the modified reports tend to upgrade from version to version very simply.

Microsoft Dynamics SL Reporting Enhancements

Microsoft Dynamics SL continues to focus on enhancing reporting for the everyday accounting user while expanding the secure availability of reports to the non-accounting user. A more comprehensive approach improves the accuracy and integrity of insight that you can gain with actuarial, financial, and operational risk. Let’s look at a few examples of how Dynamics SL’s reporting tools can help your business:

Reports – Emailing

Reports can be previewed and now emailed as attachments with the click of a button. New email capabilities have been added to the SAP Crystal Reports and Microsoft SQL Server Report Services (SSRS) preview interfaces. Users can select the report format and email address, allowing them to share report information.

Report – Report Formats

Support has been added to allow for unlimited report formats. To assist in choosing one of these unlimited report formats is a new feature that defines the most commonly used report format for a report, by company. Now when a report is opened, it will default to the defined format.

Report – Meta data

Newly added metadata for reporting means there is no longer a need to guess what a field means when trying to select specific data to display on a report. For instance, the field name“vr_01610A.acct” will be shown with the description, “Account”. In addition it will also display a status indicating if the field is currently on the report (Yes or No) and whether it came from another table.

Quick Query – Refreshable Excel files

Quick Query provides end users the ability to find data to answer questions, drill back into the product or to share the data by exporting it to Microsoft Excel. With Dynamics SL 2015, the Grid to Excel feature in Quick Query has been enhanced to support the creation of refreshable excel table documents as well as pivot tables. Now data can be exported once and then opened and refreshed over and over again.

Microsoft Dynamics Hosting and Microsoft Dynamics SaaS | Do You Need Cyber Insurance?

Every day in the US, 34,529 computer security breaches occur. Sixty-two percent of these cyber breach victims are small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) who are often vulnerable to these attacks. Awareness of the risk is growing, but many SMBs still face challenges in managing cyber security. Are you aware of data loss prevention best practices, and are you prepared should the worst occur?

Businesses are beginning to recognize that cyber security is extremely important. A Business Continuity Institute and BSI survey revealed that cyber-attacks and data breaches top the list of CEOs’ worries, with almost half saying they are “extremely concerned” about a potential data loss incident.

However, many companies are seriously underprepared when it comes to managing a data loss catastrophe and avoiding data loss. By adhering to data loss prevention best practices and having a managed backup and replication plan in place, your business can mitigate the damaging effects of a cyber security breach.

If you want to be fully prepared for every eventuality, you need to break through some of the biggest myths relating to data loss – and focus instead on a balanced solution that protects your company.

Seventy percent of SMBs who purchase cyber insurance from market-leading Lloyd’s of London are first-time buyers, so it is clear that businesses are now starting to take the risk of cyber security seriously and look for ways to protect themselves. However, businesses should be careful not to rely solely on their insurance policy in the event of a data loss catastrophe.

Cyber insurance is relatively new, still under development, and only available to cover some data loss costs. It can be beneficial in mitigating some losses but there are a limited range of providers, and no standard way to determine any company’s risk factors. This means there are still coverage gaps – which can leave SMBs at risk.

Cyber insurance might cushion the blow of financial losses to an extent, but no payout will recover the loss of business reputation that data loss creates. Following strict IT security guidelines within day to day operations is still the best practice for preventing catastrophic data loss.
